This year’s home decor trends are all about color, texture, and serenity. Designers are moving away from grays and incorporating mixed materials and shapes in furniture and decor pieces. As ever, kitchens are meant to make a statement. Read on to learn about the 2023 home decor trends, as seen Forbes’ home improvement section.
Gray is out. Rich, vibrant hues are in. This year, designers are leaning toward warm whites and earthy tones for neutrals and jewel tones like eggplant, deep greens and blues, and warm orange, as well as atmospheric fall tones for color. Use pops of color in upholstery, wallpaper, rugs, and window treatments.
Keep things “light and moody”. Contrast brightness with soft elements of minimalism. “The brightness attracts light and lifts spirits while the darker tones evoke mystery and sophistication. This can also be paired with medium-tone woods for a warm inviting feel,” says designer Bridgett Pridgen.
Serenity décor. People are looking for a place of comfort where to de-stress. There is also a movement back to nature away from “urban sleek”. Incorporate natural materials that bring warmth and handcrafted surfaces like stucco.
The return of Art Deco – with a modern twist including curved and chunky furniture and decor and deep jewel tones and lush fabrics. Sabra Ballon of ballonSTUDIO says, “less linear and literal and more about evoking the overall richness of the period to make it work for how people live today.”
Mixed materials. Instead of a full matching set of furniture for a room to add visual contrast and character. A mixture of wood and cane (rattan) is popular.
Specific rooms for specific purposes. People are designing dedicated rooms for specific purposes like craft rooms, fitness rooms, rather than multi-purpose rooms.
Statement kitchens. Minimalist, industrial kitchens are out. Instead, people are choosing luxe materials like veined marble, knotty wood, printed wallpaper and using bold metal hardware and statement lighting.
Throughout homes, designers are also integrating smart home tech to make things easier and embracing the original pieces of the home such as exposed brick or refinishing hardwood floors.
